Add an Additional Hard drive to Windows XP
Windows XP primarily comes with a Disk Management tool which lets you add new storage devices like external Hard Drives onto your system.
You would just need to set up and format the hard drive before it become available for storage onto your computer.
Following steps would simplify adding an additional hard drive to your computer operated by Windows XP.
Step-by-Step Guide on “How to add an additional Hard Drive to Windows XP”
Step 1: Click on “Start” then “Run” and then type “diskmgmt.msc” in the run box. This would initialize Disk Management tool which is necessary for configuring the addition of a new Hard Drive onto your computer operating on Windows XP.
Step 2: Now in the Disk Management tool you will see several boxes, some labeled as blue, green and black. Right-Click on the black partition as that represents the un-partitioned space on your computer.
If you have already installed your addition Hard Drive, this would represent the memory available due to that Hard Drive. Now once you have right-clicked onto that black section, click on “Create new partition.”
Step 3: Click “next” when you the first welcome window. Select “Simple volume” from the drop-down option box and click “Next” once again. Select “Primary Partition” in the next window. Select a new drive letter i.e. the name of the drive this next partition would refer to.
Step 4: Leave the default option to format the drive and click next. Now remember, you would need to format your hard drive in order to make it usable for storing data.
Once you are done with this, close the Disk Management tool and you would see a new partition create in your “My Computer”. Format it normally and you are set to use the added Hard Drive with Windows XP.

Really useful information many thanks. But how can I add a hard drive that has data on it from another XP computer. Do I need to do anything different?
Also can I replace this old HDD in my new machine and expect it to work?
