TCS IT Wiz Delhi Edition – Shared 4th Position with Manav Sthali School
It all began last year when we lost out by 2 questions, although in 3 day preparation time we got 14 correct answers, which was probably a big achievement but this time we knew we had to do it.
Scrambling through all the places of information on the web, it was a very difficult job selected the portions that might be covered in the Delhi Edition of TCS IT Wiz. We knew that Delhi Quizzers are extremely brilliant so the question level would be high which undoubtedly is gonna turn up in our favor.
We started off reading a few Information Technology books, started to follow TCS IT Wiz from the cities in which the quiz had already reached climax.
Step-by-Step Recognizing D-Day’s Events
We prepared ourselves with everything that we could from Wikipedia bevy of knowledge to books authored by geniuses of IT World of whom one was authored by ‘Pickbrain’ – Giri Balsubramaniam.
We had narrowed down that all the technology portions will be covered by me since I am the computer geek and of Science Stream while my partner being a commerce student decided to take up companies and similar topics related and best suited to his style of learning.
Although being of different streams made a lot of difference since there was no friction between us, we were as friendly as we could get, there weren’t any unnecessary arguments since he was in a different section and different stream altogether. I would say, if you live in Delhi and your school is as unfriendly as mine is – never take up a partner equal to yours.
Reason: If you gonna discuss other things during preparation of TCS IT Wiz, there is hardly any chance of you getting through and with friction among the team mates it is very difficult to survive among 600 odd team.
Facing the TCS IT Wiz: Delhi Edition Prelims
Luckily, this time we were well prepared that if something is going to come from those sections which we had mastered, we aren’t going to lose. The Questions started pooling, the first one – we had no idea, the second one - we were unsure but from the third question itself we started to gain momentum and finally had come up with some bizarre answers – though most of which were correct. LOL =)
Okay, so once we were finished we had a preconceived notion that we might not have a chance since we were standing in Delhi and getting 13,14,15 correct answers aren’t going to make a difference that knowing 2,3 or 4.
But it did eventually, we were there in the IIT Delhi Roads, just sightseeing, although that was the perfect time to open up BlackBerry, search for the @TCS and Miscellaneous IT files and read and get in touch with the Finale’s Pattern.
The Moment of Joy, Pride and Happ’y'ness at TCS IT Wiz 2010
It all came of a sudden, our hearts beating blood in our head, the pressure building because we didn’t knew moment of joy was waiting for us. My Partner Kunj said, “Crap man, we lost out on this, it totally heartbreaking.” and stomped my knee with his fist.
I felt that pain, shove off his hand from knee which could have been bruised if he were carrying a stone and said, “Okay… it’s fine at least we gave it out all, and stop going mad.”
And then… ‘Pickbrain’ entered, the crowd got excited, 8th and 7th rankers were announced. Not seeing our names called meant we were out. then Pickbrain carried out shouting names of finalists in the microphone… the team to take first, second and third podium were announced, we lost out, the hard-fought battle was about to end… with we not having the moment of pride but a memory of heartbreak.
The 4th and 5th team came up and the moment arrived, the man in on the stage with a thick mustache called out, “And the final team to join us in TCS IT Wiz 2010 – Delhi Edition are… Kunj Gupta and Rakesh Narang from DAV, Model Town“.
We ran, in amazement, shock, surprise and whatever emotions that a human can experience, it was like sprawling flood of human emotions in our veins.
On Stage, on Fire – that’s how tough is TCS IT Wiz
We stood there, our legs shaking wildly, mind almost at the verge to explode and the quiz began first round – no clue, second round – all the clues, third round – no clue and the final round – no chance.
Didn’t get anything… let’s just dissect it one by one.
The first round was called – ‘Cloud Computing‘ – It contained question from the Tech World and despite all of my internet time spent on Gizmodo and Engadget – I knew nothing.
I did knew the audience questions though. We finished that round-up with 0 points.
The Second round was called – ‘@TCS‘ which consisted of questions regarding TCS, since I had read all the latest news about TCS the day before… we got 2 correct answer and moved to 10 points and at third position.
BTW, third, fourth, fifth and sixth position had same rewards so even if we took risk and failed, it made no difference particularly.
The third round was termed – ‘Autonomic Computing‘ – Fancy Name, pretty tough questions, but i made a mistake their, read the clue and just gave an abrupt answer, lost 5 points there.
The next round was… the final and the deciding round.
The Final Round: Knew all but no chance
It is often said that in the art of war expecting your opponent to show mercy is offering your weapon to him and that what happened, we had put off our shield and had decided that we would go for it only if we knew but the team from New Era Public School was adamant to just press the buzzer… get wrong or get right didn’t matter.
They were leading and they didn’t gave anyone a chance to come back… I don’t know whether it’s Delhi, New Era Public School or the devil inside that guy which made him consider this fun quiz a war.
Nevertheless, we had fun at TCS IT Wiz 2010 – Delhi Edition, got a few prizes – they are lovely but what we learn in the process in much more important that what we get after winning.
3 months slight preparation and 1 month core preparations came up with bright results today and i am happy, at least we were ahead of DPS RK Puram in whose Exun Quiz we lost out dramatically – if not drastically.
Tell me if you were a part of TCS IT Quiz 2010 Delhi Edition, Share your thoughts, i won’t mind if you have anything to say about me. ;D So… in conclusion… we connected the dots right, everything just happened.
