Mobile Broadband Sales Suffer due to Smartphones
A Mobile Broadband Comparisons website ‘Broadband Expert’ conducted an extensive research on usage of internet via mobile broadband and came to this conclusion that in the last 18 months there has a dip of 40% in the sales of mobile broadband devices.
The company also revealed the cause behind is nothing but high-speed internet plans that accompany major smartphones including Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S and BlackBerry.
Mobile Broadband Services at risk
The commercial Director at Broadband Expert, Rob Webber gave the precise reason behind the downfall of ‘dedicated mobile broadband services’. He said that mobile broadband came into the market with a lot of preconceived expectations, people who bought new connections expected it to provide high-speed internet but with the passage of time mobile broadband services got a poor reputation in the market.
After the over hyped launch, the service could not live up to the standards and thus began to crumble. These services didn’t received very good reaction from audience and thus failed to secure a wide user base.
Webber believes that rise of smartphones like Apple iPhone and BlackBerry have also raised competition for mobile broadband services. Since these smartphones often come with a 2-year data contract with companies like Verizon and AT&T, dedicated mobile broadband services for home and office usage doesn’t attract consumers anymore.
Webber believe that once 4G comes into picture, there can be an upsurge in demands for Mobile Broadband Services because mobile speed with 4G would be quite faster than home broadband and people might switch to wireless mobile broadband devices.
