Government of India, concerned about India’s internal security over the internet asked major ISPs (Internet Service Providers) to set up their server in the country such that there is an easy access of the data being sent over the net by users or “anonymously“.

Google, Skype and Yahoo are the most widely used ISPs in India.

The whole story behind this sudden action by Government of India is quite simple yet very crucial in India’s security issues. Earlier the body has asked Reliance in Motion (RIM) which owns BlackBerry Smartphones to submit each and every data details that were sent over their BlackBerry mail services.

GOI suspects that with help of these encrypted data, terrorist crew can converse with their handlers living in other countries. (To avoid any sort of Inter-country dispute, i am not accusing any country – but you know the obvious one! right ;D) Google, Skype and Yahoo have been friendly in past.

GOI’s decision is commendable, Google servers, Skype servers and that from Yahoo could help Indian intelligence come up with name who are looking for a chance to create menace again like Mumbai Blasts. It’s Google, Skype and Yahoo to do the needful.

I feel that in this attempt to self-fortification these internet providers must co-operate, after all no lightness could be tolerated when it comes to nation’s security. What’s your take on this piece of news? Are you concerned or it doesn’t matter?
