PlayStation Phone Spotted in Chinese Markets
The PlayStation phone has made another leak in the market, though the company is silent about their project whether they are working to create a mobile phone that could run PlayStation games on it but still it seems that Chinese guys have done their work, faster than them.
The PlayStation phone has been spotted in China with branding of Xperia Series, Xperia is Sony’s official range of smartphones, is Sony trying to call it the “Xperia PlayStation Phone”? Time will tell that.
The phone has dedicated embedded software called “PlayStation Pocket” and as you might have guessed, this is an emulator that will convert your phone’s hardware performance similar to a good PlayStation Portable (PSP) gaming console.
Since the real thing has not been tried, we can’t really show if the thing they are claiming is true or not.

I was thinking about this for a long time and was expecting something like this from Sony. Since original PSP gaming console only processes video games, it needs a processor that could load hardware and perform the necessary stuff but in a gadget that is doing an additional work of phone, multimedia player and internet access device, the same hardware won’t do justice.
It would need a better processor, a better GPU unit and a very well optimized User-Interface.
As expected, PlayStation Phone has a heavily loaded hardware configuration.
- 1GHz Snapdragon processor and Qualcomm Adreno 205 GPU (Graphic Processing Unit)
- 4-inch LCD screen with a large resolution of 854×480 (slightly smaller than Sony PSP)
- 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash is embedded in the phone
- Micro-USB port, and card slot for expansion
- Active noise cancellation using a second microphone
- A gigantic 1500 mAh battery
I wish it ran on a dual-core processor because Gaming on a phone requires a lot of processing as well memory. We would never like to see a game hang on it.
In my opinion, I would have bought a stand-alone PSP or a smartphone that ran of Windows Phone 7, I am not a desperate gamer to buy anything like a PlayStation Phone.
PSP Phone uses a ARM-based processor which is bound to run apps on it fast, unlike PSP console, it does not utilizes (MIPS) for processing data.
Future Announcement Regarding PlayStation Phone
After this detailed description about this gadget you must be feeling excited to know about its launch date, price and games supported etc.
Well FYI, all games developed for PSP Gaming console will not be supported on this, since the phone found in China was just a fake we don’t really know about the gadget’s performance and all the above mentioned details would be available if the company has the heart to launch this gadget.
It may sound a bit cynical but sure enough, they’d need to do something substantial to get buyer’s attentions.
It may give us an electric shock by performing exceptionally well, still I would have been more excited to see it processing games using a NVIDIA Tegra Processor developed precisely for mobile phone gaming.
Anyways, PlayStation Phone might make its way to E3 Gamer’s conference and we hope to see a good portable gaming phone from Sony there.
