For about 3-4 years now, we have been hearing about “flexible” displays for mobile phone and Tablet PCs. This is something that is innovative and has a lot of thought behind it but since we have seen the transformation of a huge telephone into a mobile phone, there is a possibility that we would be using foldable cell phones and Tablet PCs in coming years.
It is a very interesting topic to discuss. I am not sure whether people would like to use something like this. Of course, it would save a lot of space and would weigh a lot less but as every coin has two faces, it might have a low life, and it might be fragile and very expensive!
Nokia is sharp enough to create a prototype of such a device. The Innovative Gadget is called Nokia Kinetic Device, it has a flexible display screen and you can use several features of it by bending the device in certain ways.
For example, if you want to use the zoom function, you have to bend the device towards yourself. For using the play and pause function in your music player, you have to use the tactile interface of the device. It is not a conventional thing but sounds very interesting.
By the way, this prototype is not just an idea, this thing is real.
The war between Smartphone companies is a never-ending thing. You may think that Nokia is the only company which would offer these types of Gadgets in future but you are wrong. Samsung, one of the strongest cell phone manufacturer right now is also indication its love for flexible displays.
By the way, it is just a rumor right now because the company hasn’t confirmed it. This technology of flexible displays was unveiled at CES 2011.
It would be really interesting to see whether Samsung has created a prototype of this technology. It is possible that they might display it in the CES which is going to happen sometimes in January, next year.
Whatever the case maybe, just the idea of flexible displays is my “food for thought.” I can just imagine, people rolling their Smartphones, Tablets etc. and storing them in their pockets and bags.
Nobody has ever done anything like this before, but that is what is known as “innovation.” What do you think about these Gadgets with flexible displays?
