Siri: The Unbelievably Smart AI addition to the iPhone family

Siri, the artificial intelligence bot has invaded the new iPhone 4S, it may seem like a regular voice recognition software at first, but it is much more than that. If you haven’t upgraded to the iPhone 4S then don’t read this article anymore because Siri has the potential to lure you in buying the new iPhone 4S.

The world of Smartphone is evolving going through a phase of revolution, new technologies emerge every single day but some leave a mark, and Siri is one such innovation coming from the barracks of Jobs’ fruit company. When iPhone 4S was launched, Tim cook highlighted Siri before 250,000+ apps resting in the Apple Store. You know why? Because Siri is not an app, it is an inventible part of iPhone 4S.

Siri is smart; it takes away the fuss out of simple jobs. It happens to me a lot of time that I forget saving my alarm and then have to reset it again, or I exit before saving a number, or forget to add the correct name to the number and then I have to redo it and go through a fresh period of frustration. Apple’s prime motivation in creating new products is to make people’s lives simpler and Siri is designed to do the same. This is unbelievably real, you speak to Siri in your normal, human like language and she will listen to you and do what you mean.

Unlike other voice recognition software, Siri uses a set of high quality apps pre-loaded on the new iPhone 4S to answer your query and you don’t have to learn any commands or keywords, none of those traditional ways can be found in Apple’s software and that is what builds a unique image of their products.

As I said before, Siri is smart, she can read between the lines, let’s say you asked her about some pizza spots nearby, she would search Apple servers and give you a list of Pizza shops nearby but then you changed your mind and asked her about tacos, she would understand that you are looking for a restaurant and therefore she would give you a list of Mexican restaurants not far away from you. Isn’t that Sweet!

Siri enables you to schedule your meetings, send text messages, answer emails, get latest happenings around the world, have a glance at your stocks or even make calls using your voice. I am sorry but I have to again repeat it, Siri is smart, just open your mouth and speak like you would to a good friend, Siri would understand and do whatever she is capable of doing (almost everything that a personal digital assistant should do).

Now you must be wondering what makes Siri so smart, it is the knowledge about you. Siri, is very interested in knowing you, she really wants to help and that is why she reads details about you, where you live, where you go, who are in your family tree. When you are going to say, “Call my mom,” she’d ask, “Who is your mom?” and open your contacts list to choose the contact that represents your mom. Isn’t that cool?

You can call it a slight intrusion into your privacy buy hey! Siri keeps that information confidential. She is much better than the Census board; at least she does something with the information.

Okay, so, now you’d ask me whether you can use Siri globally. Apple says, they support only a limited number of languages and dialects and that makes Siri very selective of the people she would help. As of now, people who can speak American, Briitsh and Australian English, German and French properly can take the benefits of these never-heard-before features of Siri on their iPhone 4S.

I live in India and most people here think they speak British English here, they are correct, we speak British English but in Indian accent thus Siri is not for us. India has a big market for Apple goods and Apple, if you are listening, you’d be sending iPhone 4S in India soon, so, it’d be better if you start creating an Indian English database for the iPhone 4S.

What do you think about Siri? Oops! I asked the question quite late, I can see you are reading about the iPhone 4S on your system already. Buy the iPhone 4S if you want to, but, don’t forget to share this article with your pals, they’d love to learn about Siri as well, I can guarantee that!

Update (23-Oct-2011): Siri can understand Indian accent easily, which means you have another reason to exchange your phone with iPhone this festive season. Have a look at the video:-
